20 January Verification

Forecast verification updated 2:00pm EST - 20 Jan 2011

Today's verification will be focused on the accuaracy of the GFS in forecasting the current snow event over the past three days. The 1200Z runs for the 17 -19 of January were compared to the current run of the RUC. As the snow event progessed the model runs showed minor course changes that could be correlated to the changes in the 300mb winds. Despite the minor changes in the three days of model runs there is a very strong correlation to what happened earlier this morning. Areas west of Illinois have seen stronger snow fall along with the Ohio River Valley.
