INDOT Verification for 26 January 2014

Saturday night into Sunday morning did, in fact, see snow over mostly northern portions of the state (north of !-70) in the range of 1-3" as another clipper system moved through. On Sunday clouds persisted over much of the state as snow moved out in the morning, not staying throughout the day as predicted, and warmer air came in. By the afternoon most areas were seeing temperatures above freezing, so widespread melting was a factor to watch on Sunday, as well as some strong winds throughout the state.

During Sunday night a strong frontal system moved down from the northwest pushing temperatures back down towards freezing. Along with it little bursts of snow came across northern areas of the state; the LaPorte and Fort Wayne districts saw accumulations around 1", but areas south of there saw only a trace. A major concern last night was refreezing of what melted during the day on Sunday and high winds making travel treacherous.
